Preventive
Focus
"Getting
to the cause" of oral health problems is a common focus of our efforts
here at Family Dental Care.
We
know that if we simply help people 'put out fires' and offer tooth carpentry
as a reaction to dental disease; we are missing the bigger picture. Isolating
and eliminating dental problems
is only part of the solution.
Creating
Physical And Financial Predictability
In our office, we encourage the patient option of
completing a comprehensive treatment plan, designed to facilitate long-term
predictability in our patients' lives. This predictability can be physical
and/or financial. Catching a looming toothache before it ruins a vacation
is a classic example of early intervention.
Addressing a small problem before it becomes a potentially
costly project is another type of prevention, certainly worth the initial
investment. Review how our financial
flexibility can help you
plan so you can chew what you want in your retirement
Traditional
Prevention
Of course, true prevention has historically
involved routine home care and professional dental cleaning. We offer
a state-of-the-art polishing technique of a baking soda spray which can
remove stain
and bacteria, as well as the traditional rubber cup prophy paste tooth
polishing. The choice, again, is yours.
Fluoride
Remineralizes
Ask how fluoride in rinses, trays,
and/or varnishes can help remineralize teeth that may be demineralized
from soda, coffee, tea, or juice acidity. Fluoride remineralization has
been found to be helpful for older adults who can experience "root
caries" or decay along the gumline, a potential problem adjacent
to fillings and crowns.
Dental Sealants Seal Off Grooves
Dental sealants are a way to preventively
fill in susceptible deep grooves in teeth where the toothbrush bristle
can't reach, but the bacteria can. They can be appropriate for both children
and adults and do not require anesthetic or drilling. They take a much
shorter time than a restoration to place and our office stands behind
them for three years. If you have had a sealant placed, when it is evaluated
at your routine 6-month check-up, if it has dislodged, we will replace
it for free for three years from the time it was originally placed. The
existence of deep grooves is not only the reason for sealant placement
but also why we expect sealants to stay in for a long time.
Feel
free to call our office with further questions or to set up a 10 minute
no-charge consultation to discuss your need. You can speak with Tena or
Heather at 608-437-5564.
